Emma Chamberlain: Digital Mentor

Emma Chamberlain is an 19-year-old influencer. She first started youtube just two years ago and now has 8.52 million subscribers. She is a teenage girl with tons of followings on social media like Youtube, Twitter, Instagram, and, TikTok. Emma is known for being quirky, funny and, being herself. She has her own merchandise line consisting of sweatshirts and different apparel as well as her own podcast called “Stupid Genius” and her personal coffee line “Chamberlain Coffee.” She also works with the designer brand, Louis Vuitton, attending their shows and modeling for them. She works as an influencer for many brands. I follow all her social media accounts, so I looked at her YouTube channel and Instagram for further analysis.

She does a great job at portraying her image but sometimes she does look a lot older than she actually is. A lot of her pictures of her being quirky with funny, relatable captions. Her youtube videos are all very funny and she does a great job of being herself. She can be considered a digital leader for many reasons, mainly because she is so relatable to girls her age and even older. Her openness and authenticity are what adds to her digital leadership. She began making YouTube videos about things other than fashion, just lifestyle type videos. Her authenticity is so real it connects to you and she genuinely makes you laugh. She is very mature for her age, she has her own house in Los Angeles at age 20. She made videos for fun and because her father was always recording her when she was younger, so she was used to the camera.

The impression I take from her Instagram page is that she is a young, funny girl who has a bright future. I think she does a great job at impression management, with 8.2 million Instagram followers, she has to make sure what she is posting is appropriate, since she does have younger aged following. She has to make sure her videos and Instagram posts are appropriate because she has brands that work where she must be professional in a way. She presents herself online very well in a funny mature way that is not too much. Then again, she is young so I think it is okay for her to express herself in different ways.
